She felt herself drifting, seemingly on a wave on the open sea. She had never been on a ship before, only a steamboat on the Ashley River in Charleston. But now she was not even on a ship, or vessel of any kind. She simply floated across the waves, her feet not even touching the water, clothed in a gossamer dressing gown that billowed in the breeze like a sail.
